Recent advances in light outcoupling from white organic light-emitting diodes
MetadataShow full item record
Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have been successfully introduced to the smartphone display market and have geared up to become contenders for applications in general illumination where they promise to combine efficient generation of white light with excellent color quality, glare-free illumination, and highly attractive designs. Device efficiency is the key requirement for such white OLEDs, not only from a sustainability perspective, but also because at the high brightness required for general illumination, losses lead to heating and may, thus, cause rapid device degradation. The efficiency of white OLEDs increased tremendously over the past two decades, and internal charge-to-photon conversion can now be achieved at ∼100% yield. However, the extraction of photons remains rather inefficient (typically

Nylk, J.; Mitchell, C.; Vettenburg, T.; Gunn-Moore, F. J.; Dholakia, K. (SPIE, 2014-03-12) - Conference itemLight sheet microscopy has seen a resurgence as it facilitates rapid, high contrast, volumetric imaging with minimal sample exposure. Initially developed for imaging scattered light, this application of light sheet microscopy ...
Light-emitting electrochemical cells and solution-processed organic light-emitting diodes using small molecule organic thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters Wong, Michael Y.; Hedley, Gordon James; Xie, Guohua; Kolln, Lisa; Samuel, Ifor David William; Pertegás, Antonio; Bolink, Henk J.; Zysman-Colman, Eli (2015-10-13) - Journal articleTwo novel charged organic thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters, 1 and 2, have been synthesized. Their TADF behavior is well-supported by the multiexponential decay of their emission (nanosecond and ...
Surface plasmon polariton modification in top-emitting organic light-emitting diodes for enhanced light outcoupling Fuchs, C.; Schwab, T.; Wieczorek, M.; Gather, M.C.; Hofmann, S.; Leo, K.; Scholz, R. (SPIE, 2014) - Conference itemWe report on the enhanced light outcoupling efficiency of monochrome top-emitting organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). These OLEDs incorporate a hole transport layer (HTL) material with a substantially lower refractive ...
