Secret strings : the sounds of fibre and ply
Abstract
This article analyses two khipu epistles from the Central Andes, explaining how the authors studied them. We describe the logosyllabic system of communication that they represent, and speculate on whether this phonetic system is a colonial invention or has pre-Columbian roots.
