dc.description.abstract"Fate's Trip" is the opening 40,000 words of a longer creative work, which aims to explore depictions of strong female characters and to examine and critique how humans and society interact with their environment and the impact this has. It follows the coming-of-age journey of the two female protagonists, Jynn and Merri, as they foray into adulthood and responsibilities, and the trials and 'trips' that fate has in store for them along the way. The focus on these friends becomes the foil for a wider social critique of the societies they are a part of, seeking to illuminate problems in how the environment and gender equality are currently handled by presenting a world where these ideals are a norm, but have begun to be eroded. The breakdown of the protagonists' positions of privilege in society enables their deeper engagement with these issues.en_US
