Third edition. First edition published in 2007.
Following the release of its 'Every child matters' programme, the Department for Children, Schools and Families (now the Department for Education) asked the SDC to explore how the environment might affect the success of their initiative. Written for anyone working to improve the lives of children, 'Every child's future matters', argues that children must be able to get around safely by foot and bicycle, use our streets for social activity and play, and connect with nature in green and natural spaces.

This report comments further on 'Food and health action plan : Food and health problem analysis for comment' which usefully summarises current policies and initiatives. However, some on-going initiatives are not mentioned; in fact, there is very little mention of the role that the public sector should play in encouraging healthy eating.

This document is a summary of '$100 a barrel of oil : impacts on the sustainability of food supply in the UK'.
This study asks a simple question: what would be the impact on food of oil prices rising to $100 a barrel? When the Sustainable Development Commission commissioned this research, oil was nearly half the price it is at the time of publication.

This document demonstrates that, for people to be healthy, the environment around us must be health enhancing and provide opportunities to live a healthy life. It is acknowledged that the evidence base is incomplete, but conclude that research findings to date about the health impacts of the outdoor environment are sufficient to
warrant action.

This document is summarised in '$100 a barrel of oil : impacts on the sustainability of food supply in the UK [executive summary]'.
This study asks a simple question: what would be the impact on food of oil prices rising to $100 a barrel? When the Sustainable Development Commission commissioned this research, oil was nearly half the price it is at the time of publication.

The Sustainable Development Commission's submission to the inquiry includes suggestions on how the Government could meet its 2010 target of a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions, and questions how the 2006 energy review entitled 'The energy challenge' will affect the implementation of the Climate Change Programme.

Transport currently accounts for 29% of the UK’s total carbon dioxide emissions, and unlike other major sectors, its emissions continue to rise. But by making more effective use of information communications technology we can reverse that trend, and at the same time make travel in the UK easier, safer and more environmentally friendly in the future.
